Aida's story

Aida K. lives in the Nalukolongo neighborhood in the city of Kampala, Uganda. She is married and has eight children who are attending school. She does not take care of any additional family members. She lives in a home that she owns which has access to electricity but does not have access to piped water. Her major monthly expenses include school fees.

Aida has a business selling charcoal and has been in this business for ten years. She works seven days out of every week. She is requesting a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan shillings from MCDT SACCO, which she will use to buy more bags of charcoal to sell.

The main business challenges for Aida include transportation. Her goals and aspirations for her business are to earn a profit to help her family.

This loan is administered by MCDT SACCO, a savings and credit institution that uses the Grameen Bank model of solidarity lending. MCDT's cooperative structure also affords clients the opportunity to own shares of the organization and benefit from its financial performance.
