Bendiya 2 Group's story

"Bendiya 2" is composed of ten married women who average 45 years of age and two children living in polygamous families in Kegne, a village in Dioïla prefecture, Koulikoro region (2nd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).  The group members are collaborating with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso with the goal of better organizing their businesses at the start of winter.  The crops include peanuts, pearl millet, and corn.   The group members are on their fifth farm loan, and all the previous loans have been repaid.

With this new loan, Ms. Djenebou C. intends to buy supplies (ahead of price increases) and sundry equipment and to cover the cost of labor for maintaining about 1.3 hectares of peanuts.  After harvesting, the produce is sold in Dioïla City to a customer base composed of women and men. Djenebou plans on making a profit of about 52,000 francs CFA at the end of the planting season.
