A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer for cassava.

Nua Ngam 31 Group's story

Born in a poor family, Thuong, 31, is a resilient woman working hard to improve her family's life. Thuong has worked as a farmer since she was very young. She married early and lives with her husband, her 12-year-old son and her 10-year-old daughter in a poor and remote village in the northwest of Vietnam, where most of the villagers, including her family, rely on agricultural production.

Thuong works very hard at some agriculture acitvities such as growing rice, cassava, vegetables and raising cows and chicken, but her income is not stable due to disease in the chickens, so her family life is still very difficult.

Before, her family was very poor, so she couldn’t borrow money from any source because she did not have a collateral asset. Since she learned about the Anh Chi Em program, she has been interested in its loan and agricultural training and counseling, which have actually affected favorably her farming and animal husbandry. Thuong was successful in repaying nine loans from the Anh Chi Em program.

Recently, she has taken a loan from the Anh Chi Em program to buy fertilizer for cassava. Thuong hopes that with the advice from agriculture staff in the Anh Chi Em program and her husband’s support, her investment will go well and help to improve significantly her family’s income and have money to pay for her children.

In the picture, she wears a blue shirt and a friendly smile.
