A loan of $900 helped buying organic fertilizer, coffee plants, and materials for a new greenhouse.

Marcelino's story

Marcelino is 54 years old and is married to Vicenta, also 54. They live in their own home and have six children. Marcelino and Vicenta live with two of their children, while the rest of the kids live and work in Lima.

Marcelino has grown bananas, coffee and pineapples on his land for 30 years. Not only does he enjoy working hard along with his beloved wife, but he is also able to cover the household's expenses. Marcelino and his wife recently had successful harvests and were able to sell their produce at a wholesale market in Lima, where his clients know the quality of his produce and readily buy from him. Transporting the harvest to the market, however, costs a lot of money.

Because his business is quite profitable, Marcelino lives comfortably. Nonetheless, he wants to increase the size of his crops and become one of the more profitable farmers in the area. In the near future, he would like to build a greenhouse where to start the next generation of coffee plants.

This is his third loan with Kiva partner MFP, where he is happy working with his fellow members at the community bank. With this loan, he will buy organic fertilizer for his crops, as well as coffee plants and materials to build his greenhouse.
