A loan of $550 helped purchase of fertilizer and hiring of workers.

Edwin's story

Edwin, 33 years old, is a model father who fights through adversity. He has been separated from his partner for about a year, and he is raising their small three-year old son, Angel. They live together in a rented house. Edwin has worked in agriculture for 13 years, and he grows plantains, pineapples, and coffee on his own land as well as land that he rents. So every day Edwin prepares his meals and heads off to his fields, and he brings his young son with him because he has no one to leave the child with. They spend all day together caring for their land. Of all the work that he does, Edwin enjoys planting coffee and picking the beans to sell them to the commercial wholesalers, who recognize the quality of his product and pay him a good price. He hopes to plant more coffee plants because this is a very profitable product, which sells for 8 soles per kilo. He hopes to build his own house and continue to acquire land in order to grow the size of his farm. This is the second loan Edwin will receive from MFP; he is an enthusiastic person and is happy to work with the community bank. He will use the loan money to buy bags of fertilizer and hire laborers.
