A loan of $550 helped to buy beef, chicken, and vegetables.

Maria Leonor's story

L Señora María G. is a member of the Nuevas Amigas (New Friends) Community Bank. She lives in the town of Cuenca which is the third most important town in Ecuador from an economic point of view. The beauty of its architecture, its churches, and its rivers make Cuenca an attractive town.

María is 50 years old. She is married and has four children aged 30, 27, 24, and 23. None of them are married, and three of them are studying and working, and contribute to household expenses. Her third daughter also works. María’s husband has his own mechanic workshop. Through their hard work, they have built their own home.

María works in the home, but on Fridays she works in her butcher’s shop selling beef and chicken as well as vegetables. She’s been doing this for seven years.
María has a very good relationship with all the members of the group; she’s been a member of the bank for two and a half years. She plans to use the loan to buy products for her business. Her dream is to help her children complete their education.
