A loan of $575 helps to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds.

Viola's story

Viola is a 23-year-old mother. She is a woman who has gone through chronic poverty but never gives up. Though she failed to secure decent employment, her hope for a better life was not destroyed.

She has many years of experience in crop and dairy farming. At her farm, Viola keeps dairy cows and grows various crops. She has mastered farming activities, such as growing and harvesting, and earns income from selling her crops. Her main challenge is the high cost of farming inputs in her area.

When Viola learned about Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva from a Juhudi Kilimo loan officer, she became interested in the good work that Kiva does to support smallholder farmers. Viola is happy to have access to reliable microfinancing, and she attended regular training sessions to learn about savings and loans.

She requested a loan, which she will use to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and make more profits from sales to support her family.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
