A loan of $1,075 helped to purchase fertilizers.

Jorge's story

Jorge is 65 years old, and a man who has always fought hard to overcome life’s obstacles. He lives in his own home with his wife Francisca, who is 55, and his youngest daughter María, who is 11 years old. They are the reason for all of his daily efforts to succeed.

Jorge’s farmlands can be found in the town of Cumutay, located in the district of Tarma. He has ample acreage and, given the care with which he tends to his soil, he has converted his farm into one of the best producing enterprises in town. Because of the excellent quality of his produce, he obtains very good prices when he sells his potatoes and peas at the wholesale market in Tarma.

The aspects he enjoys most about his work are planting his crops and endeavoring to make the soil fertile. He has been a farmer for 50 years, and finds the most challenging aspect of his profession to be protecting his crops against plagues that affect his plants’ growth. Over time, he hopes to buy farmland in other towns in order to increase his output and diversify the types of crops he grows.

This is his seventh loan with MFP, and he knows he must make his payments on time if he wants access to credit in the future. He is a very responsible member of his cooperative, and is always cognizant of the obligations his group enters into. He will use the three thousand Peruvian soles requested to buy more fertilizers, to increase the productivity of his lands.
