A loan of $675 helped buy newspapers, books and lottery tickets.

Maria Carmen's story

María T. is a member of the loan group Loma de la Cruz. She lives in Cuenca, the third most important city in the country. Its churches, rivers and delicious cooking make it a very lovely place. María is 47 years old. She is married and has 3 children aged 30, 26 and 20. Her eldest daughter, who is single, works and helps her financially. Her two sons are married. One of them lives independently and the other one lives in her house and contributes to household expenses. Her husband sells newspapers. He does not own a house so he rents. Our member has been selling newspapers for 30 years. Her whole family helps with the business. She has her own stall but she also goes all over town to sell newspapers. She works Monday to Monday from 5am to 4pm. This is her second loan through Fundacion. She plans to invest the loan in the purchase of newspapers, books and lottery tickets. Her dream is to own her own home.
