A loan of $1,100 helps a member buy a hand-held hair dryer.

Twimukye Women's Group's story

Joan is a very hard-working woman who lives in Hoima, Uganda doing hair dressing around the area. Joan belongs to a group called Twimukye Women's Group, where she acts as their chairperson. Members in this group are all women dealing in the salon business, that is to say they are all hair dressers.

These women were all in business, but they were lacking money to buy salon requirements. They came up with an idea of making a group and guaranteeing each other financial support, which they did. And as we talk now, since they started getting Kiva loans, their income increased and they are all happy. However, Joan faces a challenge of low customer turnout because of Covid-19 that affected her customers' businesses. She has therefore requested a loan to buy a hand-held hair dryer.

In this group: Joan, Consolanta, Fanny, Mariserinah, Agnes

This loan is special because:

It targets extremely rural populations.
