A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Belinda's Group's story

Pictured above is Belinda, often described as an extremely hard-working individual. She is 43 years old and has eight children. As a group leader, she represents her group of eight farmers in Alego District, Kenya.

Belinda is returning again this season to work with One Acre Fund as this means she can access quality training and acquire new farming methods which is why she decided to join in the first place. Belinda says she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2016, she has been able to consistently feed her family, which has significantly improved her day-to-day life. Belinda will use the profits from this season to send her children to school.

The group will use this loan to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of four acres. Some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light though this loan, with the group receiving a total of two solar lights.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
