Koske is 32 years old. He is married and has 2 children, ages 4 and 6. His elder child attends school. He is a dairy farmer from the town of Litein in Rift Valley, Kenya. He has been farming for the past 3 years and has employed one farm-hand. He sells his milk to Kenya Cooperative Creameries. He also practises cash-crop farming and produces tea which he sells on the local market.
His primary challenges have been lack of artificial insemination services, poor prices for milk, and lack of enough funds to build a good dairy unit.
Koske has requested this loan from Juhudi Kilimo of KES.45,000 to purchase and insure a dairy cow. With this loan, the income of the family will increase and this will help him repay the loan and provide for the family. In future, he would like to improve his dairy farming to a sustainable level by acquiring 5 quality dairy cows.
He is grateful to Juhudi for the financial support and requests more funding in future.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
