A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to improve her tea crop farming.

Claire's story

Claire, a 43-year-old mom of 3 school-going children, is a smallholder farmer. She is an honest, hardworking, and loyal person who is completely dedicated to her farming job because she has a family to care for.

Claire has been farming for the last few years. Over the years, she has gathered much experience and is considered to be among the best farmers in her village. Her primary sources of income have been cow milk and tea crops.

Claire is very passionate about farming and loves cultivating her farm. Although she makes a profit from tea farming, she is not comfortable and has always wanted to increase her income by buying fertilizer so that she can improve her tea crop harvests.

She is seeking this loan to do just that: to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, and improve her tea farming.

Her remote village, in one of the country's most populated regions, has a high demand for tea products. This means that Claire could increase her profits and satisfy the demand for tea products there. She feels relieved because Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva to help hardworking and honest women farmers like her turn their farming dreams into reality through training and loan financing. Claire believes that this loan will be of help and that she will be able to satisfy the demand for tea crops.
