Belen's story

Belen is from Concepcion, Iloilo. She is 41 years old, married, and has four dependents. To earn an income, she runs a sari-sari (variety) store, selling basic commodities. She has been in this business for many years. Meanwhile, her husband works as a fisherman to provide for their family’s needs.

Now, she asks for a loan of PHP 40,000 through Kiva’s field partner, CEVI (a microfinance NGO in the Philippines), which she will use to buy grocery items like toiletries, spices, eggs, noodles, canned goods, candies, snack foods and drinks. The rest of the loan will be used to buy a fishing boat.
