Juana's story

The city of Rayanniyoc is a half hour from the city of Cusco and one hour from the city of Urubamba. The people of Rayanniyoc work at farming and livestock production.

Sra. Juana, 52, is married and has four children. Her main source of income comes from selling produce from her farm and garden: maize, onions, oregano, potatoes and "lizas". She supplements her income by making and selling wool sweaters, hats, gloves, etc. and by raising animals.

Sra. Juana belongs to the Villa Rayanniyoc community bank, a group attached to Asociacion Arariwa. She has been a member of the community bank for some years and has proven to be a responsible borrower, with a record of repaying her loans on time. She will use this loan to buy grains and alpaca wool.
