Benkadi 1 Group's story

BENKADI 1 is a group of married women from the village of Dah in the San Prefecture of the Segou region (4th administrative region of Mali) who live in traditional extended families. On average, the women are 36 years old and have at least four children. They grow peanuts.

Because of concerns about the profitability of their farm, the group decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso loan program three years ago. This is their third farming loan and they have repaid their previous loans.

Minata C. will use her loan to buy peanut seeds, small agricultural tools and soil additives, at the general market in the town of San. After the rainy season, the crop will be stored for it to gain value and then sold at the general markets in Dah, San and in surrounding markets, in stores (often in bulk), or to cash customers from large cities. The members of the group each expect to make a revenue of 35 000 CFA Francs from selling this agricultural product, which will be used to repay the loan and cover the family's expenditures.

In this group: Minata, Sali, Djeneba, Djeneba, Sian, Nana, Nana, Kotimi Moussa, Magnon, Assetou
