A loan of $650 helped a member to buy gallons of palm-oil to add to her current stock.

Kamuyu Group's story

Fatu K. (pictured left) is the leader of this group called “Kamuyu”. She was born in 1965 in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. She is married to a teacher and the couple has four children – one in primary school and three in secondary school.

With the help of her palm-oil business, Fatu has been able to significantly contribute towards her family’s wellbeing. She has been selling palm-oil (the country’s most favorite cooking oil) for five years now.

Fatu and her group members have applied for a loan of SLL 500,000 each from SMT, a Kiva partner, for the first time. With the help of this loan, each of these borrowers will be able to expand her business, make more sales and make better profit.

Fatu will use her share of the loan to buy gallons of palm-oil to add to her current stock.
