A loan helped to purchase cassava, fish, oil, charcoal, and other assorted items to increase her business.

Yeabu's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 55-year-old Yeabu from Waterloo branch. She is widowed with six children between the ages of 15 and 32 years old, two of whom are currently attending school. She started her business to care for herself and support her family.

Yeabu runs a food business and sells cassava bread and fish to her customers around the community. She has been in this business for 20 years now. Her other source of income is from her garden business. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes.

Yeabu requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase cassava, fish, oil, charcoal, and other assorted items to increase her business. She says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business, take care of her family, and build a house. In the future, she would like to establish her business on a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
