Mujeres De Deborah 3 Group's story

Luz, 60, is the coordinator of her group Mujeres de Deborah (Women of Deborah), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti). Her group is located in Puerto Plata, a port town on the north coast where the economy is based on tourism and where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure with four dependents.

Luz is excited to be taking her third loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business running a colmado (general store) by purchasing rice, beans and canned goods to sell.

She will use the profits to repair the roof to her home.

In this group: Luz, Juana, Sergia, Rosanely, Marta
