A loan helped to buy more maize from smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her income.

Rita's story

Rita is a 52-year-old Mozambican woman living in Chimoio city, Manica province.

Every day, Rita gets up early in the morning to travel to other communities in order to negotiate better prices for maize crops with smallholder farmers. She has worked in this activity for many years and thanks to this, she has been able to improve her well-being.

In 2020, Rita had the opportunity to participate in some of iDE's trainings and, from that day on, her vision about business changed. She is now able to record her sales and to distinguish revenue from profit, which makes her more confident to increase the volume of the business.

Since in her community there are few possibilities to access loans, Rita is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy more maize from smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her income.

This loan is special because:

It allows farmers access to new markets and agricultural resources.
