A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as hybrid seeds and certified fertilizer to improve her yields, and she will use the increased profits to pay tuition fees for her children.

Jane's story

Just like any other mother would do, Jane has always cared for her four school going children. She is a farmer from Bungoma, a town whose surroundings have vast agricultural potential with numerous small farms and also vast agricultural enterprises. Jane is a mixed farmer who has farmed for many years.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Kiva's partner Juhudi Kilimo ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.

Jane is requesting this loan so that she can buy hybrid seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to use on her farm. She believes that these inputs will help her improve her farm yield and therefore increase her income level. She is confident that she will be able to repay her loan and expand her farm. This loan will surely empower this hardworking woman.

Support her and show love to a mother, and help her prosper in her life.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
