Mrs. Siphan Um Village Bank Group's story

This group loan consists of seventeen people who live in Chheu Neang village in Kandal province. Mrs. Siphan U. is the group leader, selected by the other members who will use their portions of the loan for different purposes to improve their businesses. Mrs. Siphan U. is a farmer who owns 1.5-hectares of land to cultivate rice to sell to support her family. She has a problem because her field is infertile. To improve production, Mrs. Siphan U. is applying for a loan to buy fertilizer and hire farm laborers. Her husband, Mr. Rortha Segn, is a security guard at a private company. Mrs. Siphan U. is the mother of two children: one is employed at MFI in Cambodia while the other attends the local public school.
