Chan Thorn's Group
In this Group: Chan Thorn, Hul, Chantha, To Koem
This group loan consists of four people who live in Tuol Doun Koam village in Kandal province. Mrs. Chan Thorn S. is the group leader, selected by the other members who will use their portions of the loan for different purposes. She and her husband, Mr. Chheng Toun, are farmers who own a 1.5-hectare plot of land to cultivate rice to sell to support their family. They have a problem because their field has lots of mice which damage their rice crop. To improve production, Mrs. Chan Thorn S. is asking for a loan to buy a battery to kill the mice and to buy plastic and fertilizer. She is the mother of three children: two help her with the farming while the other attends the local public school.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
