Guiselle C. V. is a 43 year old woman who lives with her husband and two children in the rural Costa Rican community of Abanico, which is located in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón, Alajuela Province. This community is known for being a peaceful area where the main industries are agriculture, livestock breeding, and tourism.

For the past two years, Guiselle has been growing papayas and Chinese potatoes. She says she has enough experience in caring for and maintaining these types of crops. Guiselle has a plot land where she grows papaya. Given the good results she has achieved in the past, she now wants to expand her farm. Thanks to this business, the quality of life for her family has improved considerably.

At the moment, Guiselle is requesting a microloan of 629,000 CRC in order to buy fertilizers and seeds required to grow a hectare full of papaya. These supplies are needed to provide the best maintenance and care possible until it is time to harvest. In the end, she hopes to be rewarded for having very good production.

Guisella is part of the Communal Credit Enterprise of Abanico, one of 100 member organizations that form EDESA in Costa Rica. As a member, she has received two microloans that have allowed her to generate income so that she can have a better quality of life.

Guiselle C. V. es una señora de 43 años de edad, quien vive con su esposo y sus dos hijos en una comunidad rural de Costa Rica llamada Abanico, ubicada en San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón, Provincia de Alajuela; la que es conocida como una comunidad muy tranquila y dedicada a actividades productivas tales como la agricultura, ganadería y turismo.

Desde hace 2 años ella se dedica a la siembra de papaya y de papa China , por lo tanto dice que posee bastante experiencia en el cuidado y mantenimiento de esta clase de cultivos, tiene un terreno en el cual ha sembrado papaya anteriormente y le ha dado muy buenos resultados a la hora de distribuirla por lo cual desea expandir su plantación, ya que gracias a este negocio la calidad de vida de su familia ha mejorado considerablemente.

Lo que en estos momentos solicita Guiselle es un micro crédito de ¢629,000 (seiscientos veintinueve mil colones), para comprar fertilizantes, semillas y sembrar un hectárea de papaya, además de los insumos necesarios para dar el mejor mantenimiento y asistencia posible a su cosecha, así al final podrá ser recompensado y podrá tener una muy buena producción.

Guiselle forma parte de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Abanico; una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Como socia ha recibido 2 microcrédito que le ha permitido tener un ingreso que le permita tener una mejor calidad de Vida.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
