A loan of $1,200 helped purchase fertilizers & seeds for growing papaya.

Guiselle's story

Guiselle C. V. is a 43 year old woman who lives with her husband and two children in the rural Costa Rican community of Abanico, which is located in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón, Alajuela Province. This community is known for being a peaceful area where the main industries are agriculture, livestock breeding, and tourism.

For the past two years, Guiselle has been growing papayas and Chinese potatoes. She says she has enough experience in caring for and maintaining these types of crops. Guiselle has a plot land where she grows papaya. Given the good results she has achieved in the past, she now wants to expand her farm. Thanks to this business, the quality of life for her family has improved considerably.

At the moment, Guiselle is requesting a microloan of 629,000 CRC in order to buy fertilizers and seeds required to grow a hectare full of papaya. These supplies are needed to provide the best maintenance and care possible until it is time to harvest. In the end, she hopes to be rewarded for having very good production.

Guisella is part of the Communal Credit Enterprise of Abanico, one of 100 member organizations that form EDESA in Costa Rica. As a member, she has received two microloans that have allowed her to generate income so that she can have a better quality of life.
