A loan helped to set up a canteen business, purchase a freezer, and build a canteen.

Selenia's story

Selenia lives in an isolated village in the highlands of Fiji. Travelling to and from the village to the nearest town is quite a challenge as the journey is long and expensive, so, in most families, shopping is only done about once in a month or two. More often than not, families run short on basic food supplies, so Selenia saw it as a business opportunity for her and also a way where she can help her fellow villagers.

Selenia seeks your help in the form of a financial loan so that she can set up a small grocery store for the people of Namosi Koro. She will use the money to build a canteen outside her home, place shelves inside, and purchase goods in bulk. She will also wire it so it has electricity for the freezer that she will also purchase, and she wishes to include other services like selling recharge cards and being an agent for sending and receiving money. Helping Selenia will also be helping the other families as they can easily access food items from her store and pay her back as soon as they can.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
