A loan helped to buy more charcoal to sell.

Mary's story

This is 49-year-old Mary from Liberia. She has seven children, and they all live at home. Mary is a hard-working businesswoman who sells charcoal.

Nine years ago, she started to sell in order to support her children. She learned how to sell from her sister, and this sister also gave her some funds to start the business. Mary uses a car to transport supplies to her business site.

She likes her business because sales are profitable. To maintain her sales, Mary requested for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva Field Partner. This loan will be used to buy more charcoal to sell to her good clients. She wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
