A loan helped to add grocery and food items to stock her business.

Sofia's story

Sofia is a seasoned Kenyan entrepreneur who owns a wholesale grocery store business in Kakuma, Kenya. She moved to Kakuma in 1994 and started the business soon after as a means of providing for her family. She is married and a mother to five children.

The business is strategically located in a busy area, and hence it serves a substantial number of clients daily. She also supplies to agencies around the area, and so she has established connections for her products.

Sofia was an active participant in AEC’s business training program focused on financial management and increasing sales. She was able to successfully apply the skills acquired in running the store, which now boasts improved cashflows and efficiency.

She is requesting a loan in order to increase working capital to enable her to add grocery and food items to stock the business. Supporting her business will ensure she keeps providing her community with consumption options while, at the same time, growing her business.

This loan is special because:

It help refugees integrate into their host communities.
