A loan helped to buy more goods to stock her small kitchen shop.

Mariane's story

Mariane is 63 years old and happily married. Her husband is unemployed but is a supporting hand in her business. She has five grown children who all have their own families.

Mariane lives in a village on the southern coastline of Efate island, a twenty-minute drive to Port Vila. Her community’s main industry is farming; in fact, the country as a whole relies on agriculture for its food and income. Making an income from it is often very good.

Mariane started a small kitchen shop two years ago. She also sells flowers as another means of income for her home; flowers have been her passion and hobby for over twenty years now.

Mariane has asked for a loan to help her buy more goods to stock her small kitchen shop so as to better supply her customers. She will save the revenue she earns for any family expenses or medical needs. She will continue to expand her business so her children can benefit from it after she is gone.

Mariane has been with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. for over three years now, and this is her third loan. She has faithfully repaid her previous loans on time.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
