A loan helped to buy farming inputs, which she plans to use to improve production and make more income to support her family.

Irene's story

Irene is a 33-year-old mom of 2 school-going children living in Kapsowar, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands, which favor large-scale grain farming, dairy and crop farming. She is a very hardworking woman and living proof that hard work and perseverance lead to success. Irene has been a mixed farmer for the past few years. Through farming, she has turned her life around.

Irene is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs, which she plans to use to improve production and make more income to support her family. Juhudi Kilimo’s partnership with Kiva is an effective tool for reducing poverty in Kenya, and especially among women, being the central actors in rural areas. As the world struggles to combat Covid-19, Irene is hopeful that Kiva lenders are going to honor her with a loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
