Sope Nabi 1 Group's story

The solidarity group, SOPE NABI 1, is one of the solidarity groups of the Banc Villageois in RANDOULENE SUD. It is made up of nine women, who all come from the same neighborhood. They are all married and have at least three children each. They are aged between 30 and 50 and got together as they live near to one another and get on well. The group was created a year ago, and Fatou D. and Kathy C., who are now members have just joined and got their first loan. They are building up various activities, such as a small clothing business, cosmetics, halieutic products, shoes, incense, etc. Mrs. Oulimata S. is not included in the photo since she was absent for family reasons.

Marème D., who is on the right of the photo and in charge of the group, is 46 years old, married and mother to four children, who are in her care. She is the guardian of three children who have been entrusted to her care by relatives and/or close friends. She produces and sells incense. She also sells halieutic products that she buys in a distant fishing village about 80 kilometers from her town. The purpose of her loan is to promote her business and her ambition is to support her husband in taking care of the family.
