She has never left Maputo. For more than 15 years, Albertina has had her own business in Maputo city's Mandela market, where she sells meals and alcoholic drinks. She has 3 employees: 1 to help out in her house and 2 others to help her with her business. She earns about 7,000 MZN per month, which she uses for household expenses and employee payment. She is even able to save some through Xitique (a traditional rotating savings system).
Albertina has had loans with other banks (PROCREDIT), but later decided not to continue with them. She found out about Hluvuku through a friend who is already a client of this institution. This is her 1st loan, which has a value of 16,000 MZN. She intends to use it to buy construction material (paint, sand, cement, stone, doors, etc.) in order to expand and improve her house.
She promises to pay back this loan on time so she can have access to others. In the future, she plans to ask for more loans in order to finish her house and offer her family a more comfortable place to live.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
