A loan helped to build a greenhouse to diversify his business.

Ion's story

Ion is a 41-year-old farmer from the village of Zagarancea in the Ungheni region, Moldova. He is married and together they grow vegetables in their greenhouse. Their two sons, who are students, also help. Ion has been in this business for many years. Ion’s first greenhouse was small, and they grew onions and tomatoes. In 2018, Ion built a bigger greenhouse where he grew cucumbers. They currently have two additional greenhouses that contain vegetables and arugula. They also own land where garlic and raspberries grow.

In 2019, they sold their produce abroad, but now due to COVID, this has stopped. For this reason, Ion only sells the production in the village and at the wholesale market.

Now, Ion is requesting a Kiva loan to build another greenhouse. As a result, he will be able to have a larger stock of vegetables and a better income in the future.

This loan is special because:

It enables those living in rural areas to grow their businesses at a lower interest rate.
