A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizers to help improve her horticulture crop farm.

Nancy's story

The ability to adapt to market changes has enabled Nancy(35), a mom of 2 school-going children, to survive in the agri-business for many years.

Although the ups and downs of growing commodity crops have become more frequent and severe, Nancy has continually gained skills and experience in farming. Her primary source of income has been from horticulture crops.

Nancy also engages in a small business to supplement the meager income she earns through farming. To sustain her family, she offers her produce to specific markets.

The major challenge faced by farmers from the Kerugoya area is unaffordable and scarce inputs, so farmers' yields are far below their potential. Nancy has applied for a 40,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, Juhudi Kilimo, to buy inputs, such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to help improve her horticulture crop farm..

Greater profits from increased yields will change her life and raise her household's living standards.

Nancy has a great desire to succeed and hopes that Kiva lenders will help her better her life. She thanks them for their generous support.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
