A loan helped to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for crop cultivation for this woman with a good credit history.

Lydia's story

Lydia is 24 years old and resides in Eldoret, a town that hosts a number of elite athletes in Kenya. She has farmed for the past few years. Through farming, she has made tremendous progress.

Lydia is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs and improve her farm production, thus supporting her family during this health crisis.

The major impediment to the development of smallholder farms in Kenya is the lack of short-term credit facilities. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya through financing, therefore guaranteeing their survival.

She hopes that all Kiva lenders are adhering to the safety measures in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
