A loan helped a member to buy fabrics, thread, buttons and a new sewing machine!

Mujeres De Pasaccap Group's story

Francisca, a 42-year-old married Maya K’iche mother of one son, who is now 24 years of age. She is a talented seamstress and lives in a rural area in the department of Totonicapan. Her son, as well as her husband, work with her in the business of sewing men’s shirts in various sizes.

She shares, “I really feel like a complete, happy woman because I have a son and three grandchildren who fill me with love. I can also earn income because of my business.” Francisca requests her fifth Kiva loan to buy fabrics, thread, buttons and a sewing machine. With a new machine and supplies, she will be able to increase production and create additional income.

Nine Maya K’iche women, including Francisca, participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services of Friendship Bridge. A majority of them have not gone to school and so they benefit greatly from their monthly educational-training sessions. They learn to effectively manage their clothing and animal husbandry businesses with information about budgeting, planning and investing. They also learn about an aspect of three other subjects: health, family, women. Every two months, a visiting nurse offers them basic healthcare services as part of the “Health for Life” program.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for lending a helping hand to Francisca and her friends. They are poised to step into a brighter and more successful future because of your kindness and your generosity!
