Xiprianecas Group's story

Mothers around the world need to look for business opportunities to generate an income while covering the needs of their children and caring for their homes. A common, important goal for them is to ensure that their children have a complete education so they can benefit from a future with more opportunities.

Antonia is a 37 year old woman and mother to 5 children between ages 5 and 17. She completed 6 years of formal education and works expanding and investing in her small convenience store and sales of basic grains to make these businesses successful. As a saleswoman she treats her customers very well because service to her customers is of great importance to her. Antonia is currently requesting her 4th Kiva loan to purchase groceries in both quantity and variety, as well as corn and beans which are requested by her customers.

Antonia is originally from a beautiful rural area of the Sololá department. She is a member of the communal bank "Xiprianecas" with 8 other women. They are supported through the benefits of the program "Microcrédito Plus" in Puente de Amistad which combines loans, monthly educational chats, and bimonthly home medical visits. The monthly educational chats cover one aspect of four very important themes: health, family, women, and business.

Thanks to the lenders of Kiva for opening the doors for Antonia and her colleagues of the group so they can develop their small businesses.
