A loan of $775 helped purchase a stove, pots, and a food cart.

Katty Corina's story

Sra. Katty N. is a member of the Communal Bank “Renacer Uncovia” (Uncovia Rebirth). She lives in the Crea section of the city of Cuenca, the capital of Azuay Province. Cuenca is known for its writers and artists, its beautiful architecture, the four rivers that bathe this beautiful city, the skillful hands of its artisans, and its delicious cuisine.

Katty is from the city of Guayaquil, but moved to Cuenca eleven years ago in search of work and a better future for her family. She is 35 years old, married, and has five children (ages 20, 17, 12, 6, and 3). The oldest child is no longer under her care because he lives with his grandfather in Guayaquil. Her second child is working and helps with the household finances. The children who are 12 and 6 attend school in the city. Katty does not have her own house and lives in a rental property. Her husband works in the same business as Katty selling food Sunday through Sunday without a day of rest. They work from 8am until 3pm.

This is the second loan she has received through Fundación ESPOIR. She plans to invest the funds in the purchase of another food cart to grow her business. Katty will also buy pots and a stove that she lacks. Her goal is to have her own house.
