A loan of $825 helps a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

John's Group's story

Pictured above is John often described as an extremely experienced farmer. He is 60 years old and has 8 children. As a group leader he is representing his group of 17 farmers in Lugari District, Kenya.

John is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that he is able to have access to the best seed prices, which is why he decided to join in the first place. John says that he is happy to have made that decision because, since he first joined in 2015, he has been able to consistently feed his family, which has improved his day-to-day life significantly. John will use the profits from this season to save more money for the future.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 12.75 acres. Given that a member of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive 1 solar light.

In this group: John, Elina, Emmanuel, Lorna, Julia, Ruth, Grace, Twaila, Denis, Beatrice, Rosemary, Ruth, Nastanjia, Peter, Ann, Martin, Rosemary

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
