A loan helped expansion of Kava operations via purchase of equipment for harvesting, washing, and packing.

Lusiana's story

In Fiji, we use Kava during many occasions such as birthdays and weddings, or even after a long day of work.

Lusiana has been a firm believer of tilling the land for sustenance and commercial avenues. She is a single parent to three young men, and she has always taught them to consider farming if they did not excel academically. Laselevu Village has a lush green landscape with fallow land spreading as far as the eye can see.

With the support of her sons, she has for a few months sold Kava to her customers. She recognizes this opportunity as a wise investment and is now in need of a loan to carry this venture out. With a loan, Lusiana has planned to purchase proper equipment which will aid her in the harvesting, cleaning, pounding and packing of her Kava. She hopes to operate the business independently by buying the harvested raw product from her sons. She is excited to be part of the Kava industry, as she has seen many others benefit from its demand.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
