María's story

Maria is 40 years old and shares her life with Rodolfo who is 42, and her children, Ruben, 12, and Dayat, 5. Together they live in her own house. Her work is to elaborate and sell decorative garments woven by hand. This provides the necessary income to contribute with her husband to household costs.

From a very young age, she learned this skill from her mother, who with much patience taught her the secrets of realizing good weaving. Today she puts into practice these techniques to achieve a high quality of goods.

Maria does weaving by request, taking advantage of residing in a zone where the culture leads one to be a good weaver. This has given her an advantage in this art; the work is very profitable. In the future, she wants to work very hard to have her own workshop, and in addition, to buy weaving machines.

This is Maria's 6th loan with MFP, and she has committed herself to being very punctual in all her payments. With the loan she solicits, Maria will buy supplies, including wool and new needles, in order to continue weaving and in this manner, to augment her production.
