A loan helped an elderly villager to buy a cow so she can provide dairy products for her family.

Marije's story

Marije is an elderly villager from north Albania, who is asking for the second time for Kiva lenders' support to buy a cow so that she can provide dairy products for herself and her husband. "If I have a cow to provide dairy products for my family, living expenses for us will be literary nothing, as I also provide all the vegetables, fruits, corn and wheat that we need," said Marije during the interview.

Marije had Kiva lenders' support at the beginning of the year once to buy a cow, but she could not buy it due to restrictions in transportation that occurred right after the loan. Anyway, she invested the loan in other agricultural activities. Now, she is sure she can buy the cow, as the seller is a neighbor of hers.

Marije lives with her retired husband in a village near Lac city. They perform different agricultural activities to provide products for their own consumption and also for sale. From the sales, they make approximately $90 in income per month, which they are very happy about.
