A loan helped to store his maize, allowing him to complete a modest home for his family in the meantime.

Ali's story

Ali is a maize farmer from the rural area of Kaduna, a state located in northern Nigeria, who looks forward to earning higher profits from farming.

As a member of Babban Gona, Ali has access to high-quality inputs and enhanced farming services that help increase his yields. Furthermore, through training programs, Ali now practices farming in a more sustainable manner. For example, the fertilizer education Ali receives focuses on micro-dosing fertilizers to lessen environmental impact and increase yields.

Currently, it is harvest season. Ali expects to reap 35 bags/hectare, or double the national Nigerian average of 18 bags/hectare, from this year's harvest. However, he needs a Harvest Advance loan to build a modest house for his family.

This loan will provide Ali with a cash equivalent to the value of his maize at harvest. Babban Gona will then help Ali store his maize and sell it at a higher price in the future, guaranteeing higher returns.

This timing is crucial to Ali, as he plans on using the increased income to complete his home project.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers and helps them increase yields.
