Desarrollo Rural Group's story

The “Desarrollo Rural” (Rural Development) communal bank is starting its fifth cycle with 16 members. It is located in a community in Huancavelica department whose main commercial activities are farming and commerce.

Martha is a member and during this cycle she is acting as Secretary on the governing board. She is married and has two sons. The oldest, 13, is in school and the youngest, 3, is in PRONOE (a non-school-based educational program).

Martha started selling groceries 11 years ago. Gradually, thanks to loans, she has been able to expand her business. Currently she has some health problems but she is receiving treatment.

Thanks to the meetings in her communal bank she has learned how to save; the training sessions have been much help to her.

The loan she is requesting will be used to invest in her business buying basic needs items.

Martha’s dream is to own her own home and to set up an Internet access business.
