Elsy's story

Elsy lives in a district just 10 to 15 minutes drive to Port Vila City. Her community is quite large with majority of its population unemployed due to Covid-19. Covid-19 has affected Vanuatu's tourism industry thus 70% of its population have become jobless.

Elsy has been separated for several years now with five children, they are currently sharing a compound with several relatives.

Elsy has requested a loan to help her purchase new pattern fabric and sowing materials so she can sow new garments to attract more customers. She also has a small kitchen shop which she plans to expand into a retail shop. This will help increase her income, which she will save to buy a piece of land and build her family their own home.

Elsy has been sewing since the late 1980's, her business has helped her pay for her children's education. As she plans to build her family home, she is motivated to expand her business and become a prosperous businesswoman.
