Briseidy, the married 22-year-old mother of a seven-year-old son, is determined to be an excellent mother, a successful businesswoman, and an empowered woman. Five years ago, she began selling shoes via catalog. She is proud to help her husband cover household expenses, including the cost of educating their son. Briseidy has planned carefully and is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy a large amount of shoes for men, women and children to sell to her customers. She is certain that her income will increase, especially at this time of the year.
Along with seven other women, Briseidy is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Sacapultecas." The members live in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. They want to invest in their small restaurants, shoe businesses, and the sale of personal care products. Because they have little or no formal education, they learn valuable information about business, health, family, and women in their monthly educational training sessions, part of our “Microcredit Plus” program. Another “plus” in the program is bi-monthly health services, which fall under our “Health for Life” program. The women have access to all kinds of exams, services, and family-planning consults.
Thank you, Kiva investors, for partnering with Friendship Bridge. Your support means that Briseidy and her friends can open doors to a brighter future!
