Marta, an enthusiastic married mother of three children (15-23) learned how to sell seasonal fruit from her mother. She shares that the fertile soil of her rural area, located in the department/state of Quiche, is rich and the fruit that is grown here is flavorful and delicious! The income from her business helps cover household expenses.
Marta is currently requesting her first Kiva loan to buy apples, apricots, pears and grapes at the wholesale level. Marta is very excited about earning more income with increased inventory. It will enable her to send her youngest son to school. The children in the photo are the children of the clients.
The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Cruzche1” is composed of eight Maya K’iche ladies, including Marta. They have shown themselves to be punctual and responsible with respect to repaying previous loans. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in relevant educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Their husbands mostly work on small farms and, at this time of the year, their work is slowing down. So the women must work extra hard to support their families. Every other month, they have access to health care services.
Thank you, Kiva investors, for the vital role you play in the lives of Marta and her friends! They are opening doors to a brighter future!
