Yomaira Isabel is married and has 2 children who are of young age. Her husband works in the fishing industry. They live in Machalilla, a place with beautiful beaches which are now deserted due to the covid 19 emergency.

She is a hardworking woman who despite of difficulties, seeks a way to earn money so that she can help her husband during this tough situation in which they find themselves during the pandemic. Before, she sold natural medicine but now she sells clothes and shoes by catalogue and Avon products, (perfumes, creams, costume jewellery and cosmetics).

Before the health emergency she went out around the city to sell and in her home she has some display cases. She now offers her products on social media and delivers them from her home or to other people’s homes. Although her sales are not the same, she continues on for the good of her family.

The 24 De Noviembre communal bank meets every fortnight in the Machalilla parish in the Puerto López canton, an area surrounded by beautiful beaches and many tourist attractions such as the Machalilla national park which has a lot of attractions in the form of remains of ancestral cultures. This area is well frequented throughout the year.

This is where Yomaira lives, she is 26 years old, she is married and from this relationship, the couple have two children aged 6 and 12 who go to school and secondary school. Her husband makes a living fishing.

To earn a bit of money, Yomaira makes her living selling natural products. She leaves in the mornings to sell her products because it is cooler and her children are at school. She sells the items on credit and collects on a weekly basis. She has been performing this work for 3 years and it is going very well. She will also give part of the loan so that her husband can use it for his job fishing.

She will use this loan to buy natural products and fishing material. She has been part of the communal bank since the beginning and likes it due to the help given with the loans.

Yomaira's dream is to continue growing her business.

Yomaira Isabel esta casada y tiene 2 hijos de menores de edad, su marido se dedica a la pesca, ellos viven en la ciudad de Machalilla lugar de hermosas playas que ahora están desiertas por la emergencia provocada por el covid 19.

Ella es una mujer trabajadora que a pesar de las dificultades busca la forma de ganarse sus recursos y así ayudar a su marido en esta dura situación que los tiene la pandemia, anteriormente se dedicaba a la venta de medicina natarual pero ahora se dedica a la venta de ropa, zapatillas de catálogo y productos Avon (perfumes, cremas, bisuterías y cosméticos), antes de la emergencia sanitaria salía a vender por la ciudad y en su casa tiene unas vitrinas, ahora ella ofrece por redes sociales y entrega en su casa o a domicilio y aunque sus ventas no son iguales ella sigue por el bien de su familia. Este crédito es para comprar ropa, zapatos, perfumes, cremas, bisutería, entre otros productos.

Why Kiva works with this partner:

ESPOIR uses the village banking method to offer credit and education services to poor and marginalized women in urban and peri-urban areas of Ecuador with elevated poverty levels. The vast majority of its clients did not have access to credit prior to their first ESPOIR loan, and the institution works with clients to help them eventually “graduate” from small group loans to larger individual loans. Kiva funding enables ESPOIR to keep its cost of capital down, creating benefits that can be passed on to clients. For example, one ESPOIR branch office has an on-site health clinic that offers clients and their families unlimited access to medical tests, pre- and post-natal care, birth control counseling, and many other treatments for common ailments for just 75 cents a month per family. Since this service is not profitable for ESPOIR to operate, it would be more expensive to maintain without Kiva funding.
