Maria's story

I'm a serial entrepreneur, community builder and mentor determined to boost Puerto Rico’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. After a career in architecture in NYC and Mexico City, I returned to my home in Puerto Rico, at a time when many professionals were leaving the island to pursue better opportunities in the US. I began my entrepreneurial journey in San Juan with the launch of a culinary tech startup, UrbanVittles. It was then I realized the lack of coworking spaces available for local entrepreneurs. So I decided to put a pause on my startup and in April 2017 founded co.co.haus, the first coworking space in Santurce.

As a former architect, it was imperative to create a warm and inviting space designed to unlock the members’ potential. I'm a fierce advocate for local companies and freelancers, and I'm focused on strengthening Puerto Rico’s social and economic environment by providing access to new skills, opportunities, and valuable connections. For me, entrepreneurship is the answer to the economic turmoil that has plagued the island for decades. I believe networks are a powerful instrument and my mission is to empower this community by providing a space as a catalyst.
