Wilma's story

Wilma G. is from the village of Bantug. She is 41 years old, is married, and has two school-aged children.

Wilma owns and operates a beauty salon, providing haircutting, hair curling, hair straightening, manicure and pedicure services in the local community. She has been engaged in her business for over ten years and earns approximately 9,000 PHP a month.

In 2005, Wilma joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and her ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of 25,000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase materials needed to provide service.

Wilma is requesting a new loan of 25,000 PHP which will be used to purchase materials needed to expand services provided. This loan will be her tenth from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve and expand her business.

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has twenty-one branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
