Maritza's story

Maritza is 36 years old and is a mother of two. She lives with her children in Pacherrez, a rural area in the district of Pucalá, a predominantly agricultural region located a little over a half hour from the city of Chiclayo.

For over a year, Maritza has been working selling candy, soft drinks and ceviche (a typical dish from this region made with chopped fish and lemon) in the high school in Pacherrez. Every day she goes there to work, offering her products during school breaks. Because she is conscious of the responsibility that is necessary when selling food to schoolchildren, she tries to prepare the food as hygienically as possible and to purchase candy of a high quality.

Maritza uses the income she earns to cover the household expenses and help her children get ahead. She would like to buy more ingredients in order to prepare more foods and expand her business. In order to reach her goal, she is asking for her first loan from Edpyme Alternativa [the Kiva field partner] in the amount of 1000 Peruvian soles.

Maritza would like to keep growing as an entrepreneur so that she can increase her income and help her children. For this reason she works hard at her job. She is respected and admired by her neighbors and acquaintances in the area where she lives.
